As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Take several slow, deep breaths. Become aware of God's unconditional love for you.
1 Corinthians 11:27-29
Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will have to answer for the body and blood of the Lord. A person should examine himself, and so eat the bread and drink the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.
Have you ever been punished for something you didn't do, or have you had to suffer the consequences of another's actions? If so, you have a sense of what injustice is. As the body of Christ, we are called to correct injustice, to treat others fairly and with respect, to think about how our actions will affect others, and to concern ourselves with the well-being of all persons.
What injustice is going on in my corner of the world?
What can I do about it? Is there someone who could use my assistance?
(Pray, using these words or words of your own.)
God of Justice, help me to look outside myself and be alert to the needs of others. Help me to remember that I serve you through service to others.
