Before you begin your retreat, sit quietly for a few moments and clear your mind of distractions. Take several long, deep breaths and call to mind the gift of being alive.
1 John 4:9,11
In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him. . . . Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another.
Love is a life-giving force. It pushes aside isolation and fear, and leads us toward connection with others. When we experience the love of God, our life is changed both internally and externally. In Jesus, we experience a new life. Filled with the love of God, our only response is to reach out in love to others.
How is the life I have received in Jesus reflected in the way I relate to others?
How has my life been changed by the love of God?
(Give thanks for the love of God, using these words or your own.)
Blessed Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, help me to reflect your love and to care generously for the needs of others.
