As you prepare for this retreat, pause for a few moments and pay attention to your breathing. Slowly take three deep breaths and remember that you are in the loving presence of God.
Acts of the Apostles 2:38
Repent and be baptized . . . in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the holy Spirit.
Joining God's family is a deceptively simple yet remarkably complex choice. The pouring of baptismal waters marks our entrance into a life of discipleship, which becomes increasingly demanding as we mature in our faith life. Left on our own, we humans would never be capable of living out our baptismal call. But we are promised the gift of the Holy Spirit as helper and advocate, to assist us in our life as followers of Jesus. Through the Spirit, we grow closer together as members of God's family.
How can I grow in my awareness of being part of God's family?
From what am I being called to repent?
(Speak to God using these or your own words.)
Merciful God, thank you for calling me into your family. May your Holy Spirit be with me as I learn to be a faithful follower of your son, Jesus.
