As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments to turn your focus inward. Take several deep breaths, relax, and recognize that you are in the loving presence of God, who is always with you.
1 Corinthians 12:13
For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.
The unity Saint Paul speaks of in his writings to the church in Corinth transcends human circumstances of geography or social station. While there is great diversity in gifts among the people who make up the Church, the one Spirit binds all believers together. Even with differences in our roles, we are united through the Holy Spirit, and all are challenged to live lives of prayer and service.
What can I do to promote unity in my local church community?
When have I felt the unity of belonging to a universal Church?
(Speak to God using this prayer or one of your own.)
Thank you, loving God, for drawing all cultures, all races, all ages, and all gifts to yourself. Help me to see all persons with eyes and heart shaped by your Spirit.
