Before you begin, pause for a moment. Take several deep breaths and allow yourself to grow still. Be aware of God's loving presence within you.
Romans 12:12
Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.
These encouraging words are part of Paul's letter to the Romans about what it means to be a true Christian community. In the early Church, followers of Jesus had his teachings and example to live by. They were to care for one another and serve God and others. Living together in community helped them live the Good News. But community life also had its difficulties. Paul encouraged these communities to persevere. He explained that although the community was diverse, the members were united as one body in Christ. His words speak to us today and are truly words to live by.
What are some of the challenges that I face in my family, school or parish community?
What are some ways that I can apply Paul's words?
(Speak to God, using this prayer or a prayer of your own.)
Christ Jesus, thank you for making us all one in you. Help me to use the gifts of hope, endurance in affliction, and perseverance in prayer.
