As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Let go of any distracting thoughts. Take several slow, deep breaths. Feel God's loving gaze upon you.
Acts of the Apostles 2:42
They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.
When the first believers began to form community, the Scriptures tell us that being a follower of Jesus meant living differently from others. We are still called today to live in a way that identifies us as followers of Christ. As members of the Church, we continue the practice of the earliest believers, sharing in prayer and the breaking of the bread. We also share our love and our goods. These activities of the faithful are not just options; they are a fundamental part of what it means to be Catholic.
How do I balance the tension between the values of a consumer society and the values of Christian community?
How does my attitude about possessions affect my willingness to share?
(Speak to God in these words or similar words of your own.)
Generous God, you provide me daily with all I need. Help me to share what I have with those in need.
