Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments to quiet yourself. Take several deep breaths and call to mind that you are in the loving presence of God, who is with you as you continue this journey of faith.
Matthew 5:24
Leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.
Eucharist is not a "Jesus-and-me" experience. The real presence of Christ that we receive in the Eucharist binds us more intimately to God and to all people. In the Mass, which we celebrate as a community, we come to know God more fully in Word and sacrament. Our relationship with others is intimately connected to our relationship with Jesus in the Eucharist.
To what extent am I aware of Jesus' presence in the Eucharist?
How does that awareness affect my choices, values, and opinions? How does it affect my personal commitment to the welfare of those around me?
(Speak to Jesus in these words or words of your own.)
Jesus, you are merciful and generous to me. Deepen my care for others and, through the Eucharist, form me in your image.
