Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and begin to relax. Take several deep breaths and call to mind how much God cares for you.
Luke 6:12
In those days he departed to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.
Jesus had a big decision to make. He was preparing to call twelve apostles to share his life more closely. Before he could decide, Jesus spent time in prayer. In this way, Jesus models for us the need to pray and the power of prayer. He went to God seeking wisdom and guidance, surrendering his own will to the One who loves and cares for him and for each one of us. As followers of Jesus, we know we can approach God at any moment. We can be confident that our prayer is always heard.
Where do I look for wisdom or guidance in making my daily decisions?
What part of the Our Father means the most to me at this time?
(Speak to Jesus in these words or words of your own.)
Jesus, thank you for teaching us to pray. May my desire to follow you bring me ever closer to the Father.
