Before beginning your retreat, pause for a few moments to be still. Take three deep breaths and be aware of the loving presence of God, who is with you.
Acts of the Apostles 8:35
Then Philip opened his mouth and, beginning with this scripture passage, he proclaimed Jesus to him.
Philip had no idea why God sent him on the road from Jerusalem to Gaza, but he went because he was called to go. Philip responded to God's prompting by taking action when meeting the Ethiopian on the road. Philip taught him about the Scriptures and proclaimed the saving work of Jesus. God transforms, strengthens, and nourishes us. In our response to him, we are like the Ethiopian who eagerly received the gift of faith. Through the grace God offers us, the gift of faith grows.
What does the grace of God I receive in the sacraments call me to do?
How am I a witness to Jesus in my actions and with my words?
(Speak to God using this prayer or one of your own.)
God of action, thank you for taking the first step. Speak to my heart so that I can be a witness to your love for others.
