As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Let go of any distracting thoughts. Take several slow, deep breaths. Become aware of God's unconditional love for you.
Exodus 3:6
"I am the God of your father," he continued, "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.
When God speaks to Moses, he is reminding Moses that he has made a covenant with humanity. This covenant binds us to God, and it affirms God's commitment to always love us. It was ultimately fulfilled in Jesus, who renewed the covenant and its blessings. There is but one God for all humankind. We exist in relationship with the living God. There is no treasure greater than our relationship with God.
When am I tempted to turn my face from God?
How has the faith of your ancestors sustained you in your spiritual life?
(Speak to God, using these words or words of your own.)
Loving God, let me not take our relationship for granted. Help me to be faithful to you and to meet the challenges and tasks of my daily routine.
