As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Let go of any distracting thoughts. Take several slow, deep breaths. Become aware of God's unconditional love for you.
Matthew 6:9
This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Jesus shares the intimate relationship he has with God when he teaches us to pray to God as Father. Raising our hearts and minds in prayer, we address God in a personal way as our Father. The intimacy of a loving family mirrors the relationship we have with God as the Father who sustains us, forgives us, leads us, and protects us from evil.
How do the words I use in prayer reflect my relationship with God?
Jesus invites us to use the same name for God as he does. What implications does that have for me?
Speak with Jesus using this prayer or your own.
Jesus, thank you for teaching us to pray just as you taught your disciples. May I not take your gift for granted, but grow as a prayerful person.
