To prepare for your retreat, pause for a moment. Take several deep breaths, and allow yourself time to grow still. Be aware of God's loving presence within you.
Genesis 1:31
God looked at everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed-the sixth day.
Remember a time when you felt pleased with your work? A delicious meal or the finishing touches on a home-improvement project? It's important to take time to admire our work. Even greater than our satisfaction is the realization that we didn't accomplish this alone. Maybe someone covered for us at home, or gave advice about where to look for materials. In Genesis, God makes time to gaze on what he created. When we pause to admire our work it leads to thanksgiving for our abilities and for those who helped us. God delights in this ongoing gift of creation and in the ways we use the gifts we've received.
How often do I take time to acknowledge and appreciate the things I make and others who help me?
In what ways do my personal gifts and talents reflect the creativity of God?
(Speak to God, using this prayer or one of your own.)
God of all that is, thank you for the gift of participating in your creation. Help me to slow down and enjoy what I have the privilege to create and to always give you thanks and praise.
