Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and set aside any distracting thoughts. Slowly take three deep breaths as you clear your mind. Be aware that the Holy Spirit is with you and is helping you as you proceed in this journey of spiritual growth and discovery.
Luke 2:28-32
He [Simeon] took him [Jesus] into his arms and blessed God, saying:"Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel."
No outward sign let Simeon know that the infant Joseph and Mary brought to the Temple was the Messiah. Simeon listened to the Holy Spirit and recognized the Messiah. The same Holy Spirit speaks to us to give us insight and guidance into our relationships with God, with others, and with ourselves. When we listen to the Holy Spirit, we can understand how God is present in our lives and make good decisions.
When am I most able to hear the promptings of the Holy Spirit?
How can I best create an atmosphere that will also help others to be attentive to the Holy Spirit?
(Pray to the Holy Spirit, using this prayer or one of your own.)
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth.
