Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments to set aside distractions. Relax and focus your mind and heart on the loving presence of God, who is with you as you continue your journey.
Luke 1:28
And coming to her [Mary], he said, "Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you."
Despite her initial fear and uncertainty, Mary embraced God's plan for her. She graciously accepted God's request to be the mother of his Son, responding, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." In doing so, she became the first disciple of Jesus, the first to accept Jesus as God's promised one. Mary had her heart and her head in such a place that allowed the grace of God to enter into her life, even in a surprising and unexpected way. Her humility is a model for us even as we revere her as Mother of God and Mother of the Church.
How can I discover where God is calling me to make decisions for him in my life?
Where in my life am I being called to practice more humility?
(Pray to God, using Mary's words or those of your own.)
I am the servant of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.
