As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Let go of any distracting thoughts. Take several slow, deep breaths. Feel God's loving gaze upon you.
Acts of the Apostles 4:12
"There is no salvation through anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to the human race by which we are to be saved."
Peter spoke these powerful words as he and other disciples were being questioned following the curing of a cripple, which they attributed to the power of the name of Jesus. Certainly Peter and the disciples faced many hardships as they sought to spread the Good News, but they depended on their faith in Jesus and the Holy Spirit that had been promised to them by Jesus. Today the task of spreading the Good News is no less challenged by popular culture. To proclaim Jesus Christ, Redeemer and King, in word and action, we too must be of strong faith and call upon the Holy Spirit to help us.
What are some of the challenges presented by popular culture that I struggle with?
How do I show reverence for the holy name of Jesus?
(Pray to God, using these words or those of your own.)
Almighty God, it is the life, death, and Resurrection of your only Son, Jesus, that is at the heart of the message of salvation. Strengthen me with your Spirit to proclaim you more boldly in word and action.
