As you begin your retreat, pause for a few quiet moments. Eliminate distractions. Reflect on Mary as your model of a saint and what her life story means to you.
Luke 1:48-49
For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
Mary's yes to God transformed her life forever. Responding to her cousin Elizabeth's greeting, Mary praises God for this transformation and the many blessings it brings. But her first response is gratitude. Gratitude is the foundation of our faith. As members of the Church, we honor Mary and join her in praising God. The Church worldwide honors Mary in many ways and we strive to follow her example of living in holiness and gratitude.
Mary praises God for giving her the opportunity to serve him. How am I responding to God's call to serve him?
In what ways am I blessed?
(Listen to Mary's words of praise and make them your own.)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my savior. He has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
