Before you begin your retreat, pause for a moment. Take several deep breaths, and allow yourself to grow still. Be aware of God's loving presence within you.
Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
By virtue of our Baptism, we are initiated into a community in which we have a two-fold responsibility. First, we are responsible for ourselves and for our spiritual growth. Letting "the word of Christ dwell in you richly" implies a disposition of the heart that is open to being led by the Spirit as well as a willingness to grow in our relationship with Christ through prayer and Scripture study. Second, we are responsible for one another. Our life in Christ is to be shared through word and example. By teaching and admonishing one another, as well as worshipping together, we help build the community and serve the Kingdom of God.
In what ways do I take responsibility for my own spiritual growth?
In what ways do I take responsibility for the growth of my faith community?
(Speak to God using these words or others that move you.)
Gracious God, thank you for the gift of faith and the grace of being called to new life in Christ. Help me to use my gifts to lead others to you.
