As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Take several slow, deep breaths. Become aware of God's unconditional love for you.
Luke 22:19
Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me."
The greatest gift you can give to anyone is the giving of yourself. Jesus gives this truth a new level of meaning in the institution of the Eucharist during the Last Supper. He offers himself completely for all people for all time. God is not bound by time and space, and our celebration of the Mass brings the sacrifice of Jesus to the present time. When we receive the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist, we are united in an intimate way with Jesus, with one another, and with all believers.
How often do I consider Jesus' great love for me when I receive Holy Communion?
What difference does it make in my life to be able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist?
(Prayerfully speak to Jesus in these or similar words.)
Jesus, teacher, friend, and Savior, thank you for sharing yourself with me in the Eucharist.
