As you begin your retreat, set aside a few minutes and be still. Take three deep breaths, relax, and recognize that you are in the loving presence of God.
Deuteronomy 31:8
It is the LORD who marches before you; he will be with you and will never fail you or forsake you. So do not fear or be dismayed.
Do you remember what it was like to be alone and afraid as a child? Perhaps it was during a thunderstorm at night when everything seemed dark and frightening. When the sun came up and you were able to see all of God's creation in its beauty, your fear disappeared. Even as adults, we can continue to experience fear and anxiety. Knowing that God has given us the beauty of creation, and that he cares for us, and is always with us, helps to dispel the darkness of our fears and anxieties.
What situations or events in my life are causing me to experience fear and anxiety?
In what ways is God calling me to greater hope and trust in him?
(Speak to God using this prayer or your own words to pray for what you need.)
God of strength and enduring love, thank you for your steadfast love and presence. Calm my fears and lead me to trust in you.
