Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments of quiet reflection. Take several deep breaths and call to mind that you are in the loving presence of God, who is with you as you continue your journey into the mystery of faith.
Mark 12:30-31
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. . . . You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
It is not easy to put first things first. It may seem obvious that we should set our relationship with God before everything else in our lives, but often other issues and concerns push their way to the forefront of our minds and hearts. It is essential that we turn to Jesus and the Holy Spirit for guidance, rather than allow some other voice to seduce us along another path.
What could I set aside to be more devoted to God?
How can I show greater love for my neighbor?
(Speak to God, using these or your own words.)
God, I love you. Strengthen my love for others. Help my life become a reflection of your abundant love for me and for all people.
