Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments of silent reflection. Take a few slow, deep breaths and be aware of the loving presence of God.
Luke 15:4
What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?
God never tells us to "get lost." Instead, Jesus tells us that God pursues us when we are lost, rejoicing in our return. Jesus teaches us that God cares for his entire flock. In the Sacrament of Penance, Jesus gave the Church a way to bring those lost to sin back into the fullness of God's love. We may take comfort in knowing that God is always eagerly awaiting our return and will welcome us back with open arms.
What would you do if you had a hundred sheep and lost one?
How can I let go of my desire to hide from my sin and instead face my wrongdoing and seek God's forgiveness?
(Pray to God, using this prayer or one of your own.)
Merciful and forgiving God, thank you for calling me home. Let me never stray again.
