Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments, take three deep breaths, and be aware of the loving presence of God, who is with you during this journey of growth and discovery.
Genesis 2:15
The LORD God then took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to cultivate and care for it.
When we look at the wonder of creation, it is apparent that God is a good gardener. From the will of God, the earth brings forth abundant and varied forms of life. In this story from Genesis, we are invited into the garden and given the task of caring for it. Taking care of creation is a moral obligation for us. Our care for plants, animals, and one another reflects our cooperation with God's plan.
In what practical ways do I care for creation?
What can I do to show that caring for creation includes caring not only for plants and animals, but also for one another?
(Pray to God using these words or those of your own.)
God of creation, cultivate in me a love of your creation. Help me to understand that you want me to care for the world you made and for all living things in it.
