As you prepare for this retreat, pause for a few moments and pay attention to your breathing. Slowly take three long, deep breaths and remember that you are in the loving presence of God.
Galatians 5:22-23
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Many of us have a hard time picturing the Holy Spirit. Saint Paul's letter to the Galatians offers some clues. He says that the Holy Spirit is recognized through observable behaviors. Those who open their lives to the grace of the Holy Spirit will behave in ways that bring love, joy, and peace to their own lives and to the lives of those around them. Their actions and speech will be marked by patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The Fruits of the Spirit are gifts of God and grow in every season. Our job is only to tend the soil and give thanks for the harvest.
Where do I observe the Fruits of the Holy Spirit around me? In me?
What Fruits of the Holy Spirit do I need most at this time?
(Pray to the Spirit using these or your own words.)
Spirit of God, help me to open myself more and more to your grace. May my life help others to be more aware of your presence in the world.
