As you prepare for this retreat, pause for a few moments and pay attention to your breathing. Slowly take three deep breaths, and remember that you are in the loving presence of God.
Psalm 67:7
The earth has yielded its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.
Caring for creation is hard work. Whether growing crops is our livelihood or a hobby, it involves thought, care, and often back-breaking work. It also involves letting go. We do our part, and then pray for good weather and protection from pests. What we do is integral to the harvest, but the harvest is not in our control. The psalmist reminds us that the harvest is a blessing from God, who loved the earth and all its creatures into being. The earth's harvest, in all its many forms, is a direct response to God's tender care. We are called to carry on the work of God by caring for the world.
How do I show love for the world?
What part of creation have I been entrusted to care for today?
(Speak to God using these or your own words.)
God of the harvest, thank you for the blessings which surround me. Help me to care for all living things.
