As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments to turn your focus inward. Close your eyes for a moment and recognize the presence of God.
Psalm 96:2
Sing to the LORD, bless his name; announce his salvation day after day.
Anyone who has been lost knows the joy and relief that comes from finally finding a way to safety. The psalmist offers praise to God because salvation is attainable. Jesus has announced the way to salvation for us. Our hearts should sing with joy. Jesus, faithful to the Ten Commandments and the will of his heavenly Father, provides us with an example of how to live. When Jesus suffered and died, he broke through the barriers of sin and death to offer us hope for eternal life. Salvation is here; let our hearts sing praise to the Lord day after day.
What makes my heart sing?
What gives me a surge of great joy? How are such moments a reflection of God's love for me?
(Pray to your loving Father using this prayer or words of your own.)
Praise to you, God of my salvation; you set me free from the bonds of sin through the sacrifice of your son, Jesus. Let my heart sing with gratitude, sharing with others your great love.
