Before you begin, pause for a moment. Breathe slowly and deeply and allow yourself to grow still. Be aware of the presence of God, who responds to you with love and compassion.
Matthew 19:16-17
Now someone approached him and said, "Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?" He answered him, "Why do you ask me about the good? There is only One who is good. If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments."
The question posed by the rich young man is probably familiar. Many of us wonder what we must do to gain the fullness of life. Another way to phrase that question is "How can I do the will of God?" Jesus' response simply states that we must be faithful to the way of good-the commandments. By living our lives in accordance with the commandments, we put all aspects of our life in right relationship with God and other people.
How do I yearn for a more meaningful experience of life in Christ?
What commandment(s) might help me grow into that experience?
(Speak to God, using these words or words of your own.)
God of all good, you have given me the gift of life through your own Son. Grant me a faithful heart that I might grow more attuned to your will in my life.
