Before beginning your retreat, pause for a few moments and focus your attention on your breathing. Take several deep breaths. Be aware of God's loving presence within you.
John 6:35
Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst."
When did you last feel hungry or thirsty? How were you satisfied? Eating and drinking are such routine acts that we often don't see their deeper meaning. Often it's not until we are deprived in some way that we understand our deepest hungers. Jesus makes it clear that there is more to life than feeding our stomachs. Without faith in the one true God, we will spend our lives hungry and thirsty for meaning and fulfillment. God wants to be our deepest source of satisfaction. He sent Jesus to be the one we turn to for sustenance and comfort. When we come to Jesus in faith, we will never hunger again.
Where do I turn for sustenance and comfort?
How have I experienced Jesus as the bread of life?
