As you begin your retreat, take a few moments to relax. Breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Be aware, as you set out on this journey of growth and discovery, that God is always with you.
Ephesians 2:19-20
So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.
The letter to the Ephesians describes the Church as a temple made of living stones. Jesus, the cornerstone, holds everything together. He is the Church's source of strength. As members of the Church, we rest on that same strong foundation. The holy ones who went before us show us how to build our lives on this foundation. Today, we join them as well as those to come, as members of the household of God.
When have I experienced church as a "temple of living stones" rather than as a building?
How might the Holy Spirit be calling me to strengthen my relationship with others within the Church?
(Pray to Jesus using this prayer or one of your own.)
Lord Jesus, help me to recognize the call of your Spirit to be a living stone of the Church so I may be a witness of your presence in the world.
