Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and turn your focus inward. Relax and recognize that you are in the loving presence of God, who is with you as you continue your journey of faith.
Matthew 6:10
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
We are kingdom people. Like Saint Joseph and the Virgin Mary, we have a part in bringing the Kingdom of God into our world. We participate in ushering in the Kingdom of God when we welcome Jesus, his Son, into our lives and hearts. Like the innkeepers whom Joseph and Mary encountered in Bethlehem, we are being asked to make room for Jesus. When we allow Jesus to live in us, the Lord's Prayer will become more than just a familiar set of words we recite, but rather an expression of our deepest longing.
Is there room for Jesus in my heart? My life?
How can I open my heart so that there is room for Jesus and others?
(Pray using these words or your own words.)
Father in heaven, I offer my heart as a lodging for your son, Jesus. Help me also make room for the others you send to me.
