As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Let go of any distracting thoughts. Take several slow, deep breaths. Become aware of God's unconditional love for you.
Luke 2:6-7
While they [Joseph and Mary] were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
God enters the world as a helpless child, dependent upon the love and care of his human parents. When the angels appear to the shepherds, they tell the shepherds that they will discover their Savior when they find a baby lying in a manger. God came into the world not wrapped in the rich trappings of power and privilege, but in surroundings of simplicity and humility. God is found in unexpected places, and we are all invited to discover him.
When have I had to make room for Jesus in my thoughts, words, or deeds ?
Is my heart a welcome place for Jesus to live?
(Pray to Jesus using this prayer or one of your own.)
Jesus, you come to live among us. Glory to God in the highest, and, on earth, peace to those on whom his favor rests.
