As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Take several slow, deep breaths. Become aware of the great love God has for you.
1 John 4:7
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.
A beautiful sunrise, a child's smile, and the immenseness of the ocean are only a few of the things that have the power to bring us to awe before the Creator. That sense of awe should move us to hold all things with reverence, honoring the work of God and the love with which he created. The example of Jesus' life, the Ten Commandments, Church law, and practice all help us uphold the sacredness of life. But the primary motivating force remains God's own love. Love that is authentic and merciful, springing from the core of our being, testifies to the great love that is God's.
In what ways have I experienced the sacredness of life?
How am I moved to express my gratitude?
(Using these words or your own, pray to God.)
Creator God, I am moved with gratitude for the myriad ways in which the world testifies to your love. Be with me and inspire me to hold all of your creation with reverence and love.
