As you begin your retreat, free your mind of all distractions. Breathe deeply several times. Open your mind and heart to God.
Matthew 18:19-20
"Again, [amen,] I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
Praying with others can be an experience of both comfort and strength. Sharing prayer with others or joining together to pray for an intention creates a special bond among people. This bond affects both those who pray and the personor situation for whom the prayer is being offered. Prayer transforms us. As we hear in the passage from Matthew, when we pray with others Jesus is present among us. His presence assures us that our prayers will not go unheard but will be answered in God's own way and time.
For what intentions am I drawn to pray today?
How do I experience Jesus' presence when I join with others in prayer?
(Pray this prayer or one of your own.)
Jesus, my Brother, thank you for encouraging me to bring my needs to you. Help me to be open to your transforming presence in my life.
