As you prepare for this retreat, pause for a few moments to set aside all distractions. Take three deep breaths. Remember that you are in the loving presence of God.
Matthew 17:1-2
After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light.
None of the disciples could have anticipated what they witnessed that day on the mountain. Jesus, their teacher and friend, was transfigured before their very eyes. From then on, there could be no doubt about who Jesus really was. The disciples caught a glimpse of Jesus' divinity that changed how they would think about and relate to him. There are moments when we, too, catch glimpses of the divine. Those glimpses change how we understand God and how we relate to one another.
Reflecting back over the last several days, where have I glimpsed God in the people and events around me?
How does the service I do for others reflect my reverence for God, who dwells in them?
(Speak to God, using these words or words of your own.)
Loving God, you desire so much for us to know your Son, Jesus. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on him and to serve others reverently out of love for you.
