Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and pay attention to your breathing. Silently count to 10 and remember that God is with you.
Psalm 119:89
Your word, LORD, stands forever; it is firm as the heavens.
Please. Thank you. I'm sorry. I love you. Words have great power in our lives. They have the power to transform us if we are open to it. In the celebration of Mass, we encounter the Word of God. The readings from Scripture, the homily, the prayers of the assembly, and the words of consecration all unite in an act of worship and praise. The great challenge is that, in order for words to have transformative power, they need to be heard and acted upon as well. We need to listen, hear, and respond.
How can I listen with greater openness and concentration at Mass and pray with an awareness of the words I speak?
What are some words of God that have had an impact on my life?
(Prayerfully speak to God in the silence of your heart or by using this prayer.)
God of creation, by your word all came into existence. Guide me so that I will receive your word proclaimed through the Scriptures with an open heart and mind.
