As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and allow yourself to grow still. Let go of any distracting thoughts. Take several slow, deep breaths. Feel God's loving gaze upon you.
Luke 24:50-51
Then he led them [out] as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven.
Just when the disciples thought that they could go back to roaming the countryside, teaching and simply being with Jesus, he said good-bye. He instructed them to continue what they had begun, only without his physical presence. We are Jesus' disciples today, and we have our instructions. We have been empowered by the Holy Spirit. We have been given what we need in the Word and the Eucharist. Yet sometimes we hesitate. It is in those moments that we must recall that we are not alone in our hesitation and confusion, and that although he is not with us physically, Jesus is always with us.
At what moments do I hestitate to carry out what God has entrusted me to do?
Where do I look for strength in my moments of doubt and hesitation?
(Pray to Jesus, using these words or words of your own.)
Risen Lord, grant me your support as I go forth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, to continue the work of your Kingdom.
