Before you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments and relax. Concentrate on your breathing as you call to mind that you are in the loving presence of God, who is with you.
Luke 15:7
I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over the one sinner who repents than over the ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.
God cares for us and does not lose sight of us when we stray. Using the image of a caring shepherd, Jesus assures his disciples that sin, which separates us from God, brings out God's loving desire to restore our relationship with him. When little children are hurt or have hurt others, they often hide. We are not so different when it comes to sin. But we should remember that God seeks us out and wants us back.
When was a time that I was lost and God sought me out and brought me back?
What is my response to a God who loves me so much?
(Speak to God using these words or words of your own.)
Shepherd me, O God. Thank you for caring for me and for never losing sight of me, even when I stray from your presence.
