“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Luke 1:38
For centuries, Mary has been a powerful presence in our Church and has inspired generations of believers. Mary's yes to God exemplifies perfect faith and courage. The Magnificat, her beautiful song of praise, speaks of justice, mercy, and peace. It also gives us clues as to how her life of perfect discipleship can inspire us today.
Getting to know Mary and reflecting on her life of faith help us to grow in our own lives. Through Mary we come to deepen our appreciation of the Mystery of the Incarnation: God becoming one of us in order to dwell among us and bring us his salvation.
As individuals and as a parish family, we too are invited to spend some time getting to know Mary. Who is this woman who, at an early age, was full of grace, faith, and trust in God? Who is this parent who taught her child and encouraged him throughout his life? Who is this faithful Jewish woman who watched her son die, yet believed in the promise that his death would bring new life to the world? Who was this person who said yes to God throughout her life?
Together as a faith community let us celebrate Mary's yes and get to know who she was and who she is for us today. Join us at Mary: The Yes that Changed the World, an intergenerational event held at TIME, on DATE, at PLACE. We will learn about Mary as the Mother of God, as the greatest of saints, and as a model for our own lives.
