As you begin your retreat, pause for a few moments to turn your focus inward. Take three deep breaths, relax, and recognize that you are in the loving presence of God.
Hebrews 11:27
By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's fury, for he persevered as if seeing the one who is invisible.
This passage from Hebrews praises Moses' determination and notes that his determination seemed grounded in something special. When the stories of Moses, Jacob, Joseph, and David are read together, we see how God accomplishes extraordinary things through ordinary people. In God's providence, bad situations and unwise choices can have positive results. We need a desire for God's assistance, faith to trust where God will lead us, and repentance for our sins so that we can follow God's plan for our lives.
What choices or circumstances in my life right now call me to trust in God's providence?
In what area of my life do I need to pray for the gift of perseverance?
(Speak to God, using this prayer or one of your own.)
God of all time, you led the Hebrews on a faithful path; lead me in a path of your choosing. Help me to trust you and give me the understanding to see your work in my life.
