Creed Tic-Tac-Toe

Activity Objective

To reinforce our Christian beliefs as summarized in the Apostles' Creed

Lesson Outcome

The children should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the Apostles' Creed.

Materials

  • Blank sheets of white paper

Directions

  • Explain to the children that they are going to play a game of tic-tac-toe that will help them understand the Apostles' Creed.
  • Invite the children to form groups of three.
  • Distribute paper to each group.
  • Instruct each group to select one person to be the game host.
  • Explain that the host's job is to read the game questions and determine if the correct answers have been given.
  • The questions about the Apostles' Creed are as follows:

1. It recognizes that there are three persons in one God. (T)

2.It describes the Father as Creator. (T)

3.It talks about Adam and Eve. (F)

4.It refers to the mystery of the Incarnation. (T

5.It mentions that the Bible is the Word of God. (F)

6.Jesus' work of salvation is summarized. (T)

7.The Last Supper is described. (F)

8.It says Jesus returned to the Father after his life on earth. (T)

9.The role of the pope is explained. (F)

10.It mentions that after death there is resurrection. (T)

  • The two remaining children will play tic-tac-toe by correctly answering the questions.
  • Begin by having the host draw a tic-tac-toe grid.
  • Instruct the host to select a question.
  • The host reads the question. The first child to give the correct answer places an X or an O on the tic-tac-toe grid.
  • The host selects another question for the other partner.
  • Play continues back and forth until all the questions have been asked or a child gets three Xs or three Os in a row, thus winning the game.
  • If time permits have the children switch roles.
